Damez Drops 'Coverboy' Music Video

Story by: Je'Kayla Crawford

Being on the cover of Out Magazine is a huge deal for any LGBTQ entertainer, but gracing the cover of Out's #Pride issue is...well, iconic! However, for Mississippi-born rapper, Damez, snagging the prestigious cover last June was way more than an opportunity to have his face seen by millions. It was a reminder that he had to keep going.

The career-defining moment was the inspiration behind the Atlanta-based rapper's new EP, Coverboy. The nine-track project dropped on Wednesday, accompanied by a six-minute short film for the EP's title track.

The film opens with an incredible monologue from Damez, where he talks about the challenges the year 2020 brought him, and how much his strength was tested.

“I had to adapt, not only to the changing world around me, but to the evolving soul inside of me.”

Like many of us, Damez says that 2020 had him in a very lonely and depressed state. He opened up about his tumultuous year and what this new EP means to him in a recent Instagram post.

“COVERBOY is my phoenix rising from the ashes,” he wrote. “So when you hear me pop my sh*t, know it was never easy to get here, and I still have a long way to go!”
