Hit producer 'Southside' announces his retirement from music

Atlanta's own world-renowned music producer Southside has announced his retirement from music. He says he's accomplished all he wished to achieve in the industry, and his next album will be his last.

In a tweet sent out on March 9, Southside wrote, "After this 808 Mafia album I'm done. I'm where I wanna be in life as a producer and I'm done. Just know the album is going to be great. I'm still gone lead for the culture, I'm still gone try to put new producers on, but as a producer I'm throwing the towel in after this album. I'm done."

Southside grew up on the south side of Atlanta (hence the name), and blew up in the game after co-producing 'Illest Motherfucker Alive' for Kanye West & Jay-Z's critically acclaimed Watch the Throne. He's also largely responsible for some of our favorite Future projects including, Monster, DS2, and 56 Nights.

He founded the production team 808 Mafia with Waka Flocka Flame (who coincidentally also recently retired) in 2010, and together they dropped timeless hits like Bussin At Em and F*ck The Club Up. Other notable chart-toppers include, Young Thug's Big Tipper, Offset & Cardi B's Clout, Gucci Mane's I Get The Bag, along with COUNTLESS others.

Southside also mentioned on Twitter that he's working on a new book, as well as a way for aspiring producers to learn beat-making from him.

Needless to say, he's contributed a lot to the culture. Hip-hop is losing a giant.
