New tool shows that mayor's $1 billion affordable housing plan is 25 percent complete

Many were skeptical when the mayor announced her ambitious "One Atlanta" Affordable Housing Plan this past June, but according to the all-new Atlanta Housing Affordability Tracker released by the city of Atlanta this week, the mayor is pretty much on track to hitting her goals.

In a 43-page document, Mayor Bottoms detailed how she planned to raise $1 billion to build 20,000 affordable housing units across the city by 2026. The plan involves using existing public dollars and land as an incentive to attract private sector investment. The mayor's also looking to expedite the redevelopment of vacant and abandoned properties to make room for affordable units.

According to the tracker, since January 2018, 3,506 affordable units, both new and renovated, have been completed or are underway, totaling $252 million in funding. 2,249 units have been completed, and 1,257 units are underway.

The tracker provides the name and address of each of these projects. You can also filter by project type and search a map for targeted locations. The tracker will reportedly be updated quarterly.

Mayor Bottoms' housing plan assumes she is re-elected and serves until 2026. That being said, Bottoms is now a quarter of the way through a potential eight-year reign, so she is on target to a billion dollars funding wise at $250 million, but she's shy of her goal unit wise, which should be at 5,000 at this point.
